App.: Deep mahogany, clear, with a fair light tan head. Aroma: Yeasty, some sweet, med.-roasted malts, some herbal notes, all backed by a restrained organic acid tang; lightly woody and vinous. Palate: Medium-light body, medium effervescence. Flav.: Organic acids jump out first, somewhat vinous and woody, hints of the malts and herbal notes in the background; a bit tangy, a touch bitter with a lingering impression of sweet, dark malts (dark dried fruits and caramelized sugars).

I haven’t had enough examples of the style to know how this one holds up. However, I enjoyed it somewhat.

Pours a deep mahogany brown, with a creamy beige head. Aroma is sour like a mouldy basement, and musty like an empty attic, with notes of roast beef as the beer warms up, but strangely appealing. The flavours are very different, edgey, with some sourness right upfront, like noted by a few others, the middle is kind of void of flavour, the finish is relatively satisfying, with a tasty sour cherry flavour.

Bottle conditioned and purchased from the LCBO. Dark oak pour with a quickly fading white head. Smells of lemon and blue cheese. Taste upfront is moderately sour, but this is toned down by aggressive carbonation. As the drink flattens, the sour tone is enhanced, and the beer begins to resemble a red wine that has started to turn (but in a good way). The mouthfeel lets this drink down, as the carbonation is too intense and overpowers the flavour unless let to sit.

330ml bottle, 5.5% A/V Pours dark dark brown/red with tan head. Nose consits of an incredible red wine smell with some malt and complex bitterness. Tastes fairly grapey, with malt and red wine aspects. An almost grape juice finish which is an interesting departure from almost any beer ive had.

330ml bottle. Pours a dark redish brown, with vaguely purple highlights. The head is small and subsides fast to a spotty surface film. The aromas are odd, very fruity, lots of grapes, actually a lot like red wine, with some malts thrown in, and something sour I can’t quite put my finger on. The taste is even more odd and interesting, major emphasis on the red wine aspects, perhaps from the oak-barrel aging. It fizzes away in the finish almost like grape soda, very odd. Fruity/sour/malty aftertaste follows. It’s actually an enjoyable beer, it’s just very different for me, as this is my first sour ale. An interesting experience for me, although I’m betting there’s better examples of the style out there. Neat though.

Pours deep burnt read with a sizeable head. Aroma of grapes, dates, caramel and vanilla. No hops present. It almost tastes like a mix between coke and red wine: mild, acidic, and fruity. Dry on the mouth, a bit thin. Almost reminds me of a cider. What flavour it has is nice, but lacks complexity and is weak.

Deep brown of color with a beige head. An aroma of dark fruits, oak and sour notes. A flavor of dark fruits, sweet notes, metallic notes and sour notes.

Very nice oud bruin with the oak notes giving a nice woody dryness and importing a vanilla sweetness that plays well with the sour character of Petrus. Must be drunk cool, not cold, it really opens up the middle and finish.
