Pours a beautiful rich brown, with a slight ruby tinge when held to the light. Gorgeous fluffy head that eventually disappears, but is beautiful while it lasts. Smells tangy, as it should: vinegar and grapes (think a lighter red wine). And yes, it is sour. Tart cherries, a little citrus rind and some vinegar all combine nicely to give this a proper Flemish profile. I think what I like best about this is the aftertaste, which drifts toward an abbey double - maltier, sweeter and candier than a Flemish Sour. I think I could drink several of these... | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2005 Clear but dark burgundy body topped by a small lasting light tan head. The aroma is fruity, vinegray, and lightly oaky. The flavor is fruity first and sour/vinegary second. Cherry comes forth late and peaks as the beer cascades down to my gullet. Spritzt attenuated body. Crisp and refreshing. Decent, pretty straight-forward without any of the complexities of the Rodenbachs but still a nice beer. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 19, 2005 my first of this style. pours out a dark brown color, as you can see from the picture to the left. i didnt really know what to expect from this beer as once again, its the first of the style for me, and also because their tripel is lacking in many ways in comparison to st bernardus. all that aside, this is a pretty good beer. surprisingly refreshing and very easy to drink. there is a hint of sourness in it, which made it all the better. cherry and fruity tasting. a pretty good beer. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 9, 2005 Very dark, deep red with a short-lived pale beige head. Cherry, cobwebs and sawdust in the nose. The sourness is tempered by the aging, obviously, making it a very mild drink. After trying Rodenbach, this is a little dull on the palate, but still enjoyable. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Bottle from pintbypint. From a 250 ml bottle best by August 6, 2006. The body is a very dark brown with some ruby highlights. The head on my initial pour is huge. The aroma is sour apples and cherries. There is also some oak. The taste is slightly sour cherries with some dark bread. There is also a little bit of Sprite. A decent beer, but this lacks character. I really like the style, but I want more taste and body. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2005 (Bottle 25 cl) Clear, brown with a reddish hue. Not really sweet, not really sour. More dry with a slight hint of hops in the finish. Light in body and very pleasant and quenching. Spends 20 months in oak vats - that’s a long time indeed. Perhaps one could expect more flavours from that long period of maturing? 070795
