Translucent light amber with foamy off white head. Big sticky lacing. Nutty, bready aroma. Acidic lowenbrau can taste, more alike to lager than ale. Stale, corny, boxy flavor. Nothing much positive in the flavor besides a slight acidic tartness. gilvanblight (397), Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Some hops in both the scent and taste but not much else. There is something odd in the taste that eventuallt came out but I can’t place it. Not as good as expected. Tart and woodsy flavor, with a citric, sour finish. Comes across a little earthy in the finish. Bottle, Union Jack’s, Knoxville. tronraner (1934), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Bottle. Pours clear gold with huge white head. The aroma is quite a bit maltier than I had expected, with some faint grassy notes and noble yeast. The flavor is kind of dry, with lots of low-alpha hops, fortified by some malt, toast, and a bold yeast character. The flavor is quite good, but the mouthfeel is soapy. | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Petrus Speciale pours to a golden amber color with a tight white head and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very inviting. Sweet malt aromas marry with strong aromas of pepper, and earthy yeastiness. Petrus Speciale is spiced with coriander, and it is quite evident in this beer. The palate is firm with more good malt flavors on the palate, with a nice back drop of bready/yeasty flavor, and subtle hints of pepper. This beer finishes with more good malt up front, then is balanced with some nice hop bitterness, and a slightly sour/vinous note.
This is a fantastic beer to have with a meal, and would work well with many gourmet dishes. I matched one with a meal of Blanquette de Veau, which is veal tips slowly braised in white wine, mushrooms, and cream. The combinations of flavors in the dish, and the malty/yeasty/peppery flavors of the Petrus worked extremely well. Seek this beer out if you can find it. It can be a bit hard to find in some markets, but well worth looking for. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 19, 2006 Aroma is kind of musty/grassy like the ground underneath a piece of wood that has layed undisturbed for a while. Color is dull gold with a nice looking two finger thick head that is more creamy than bubbly. Hmmm I guess this is Belgian’s version of a session beer. Very grainy fore that is mildly malt bready and that flavor carries ont hrough all flavor ranges. It’s almost impressively consistent in that way. it tastes the same from fore to aftertaste. Just doesn’t taste that good is the problem. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada
