| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 19, 2004 (25cl bottle) Pours a huge, almonde head and a pale amber body. Initially tinny nose turns to mixes of malt. Interesting flavour of spice, tart cherry, apple juice and minor alcohol. Amazing that this is 6.5% - I thought more? Good. presario (2983), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 17, 2004 Light amber with a light head and lasting lacing. Thought I enjoyed the aroma till someone said cheese! and now that is the dominant aroma. Thin body. Understated flavour with minimal finish. Nice and smooth but not a lot of character to recommend this. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 17, 2004 Ultra-super-good. Aromatic beer, with yeasty/dried apricot aroma. Tasty going down, with a dry finish, indicative of generous amounts of boiling hops, not normal for many Belgians. Great stuff, and very high on my list of good things. skortila (2903), Bunnik, Netherlands

Rerate. Bit boring and sharp. Not my cup of tea. rauchbier (3000), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2004 Bottle conditioned. Chestnut red, thin but lasting off white head and moderate condition. Aroma starts off with a woody fruitiness that is almost, but not quite, cherries. An orange maltiness then develops and then turns into what I could only describe as the smell of parma violet sweets. In the mouth there is a slightly spicy aniseed note and the wood notes become slightly tannic and tart. The spiciness and some malt notes linger in the aftertaste.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 5, 2004 Updated: Jan 30, 2004(draught) Very carbonated, very dense yellow froth, lacey; dark amber ale, totally clear. Crystal and other ale malts in the nose - and a whiff of Brettanomyces. Sweet main taste, crystal malts, faint overlying bitterness. No Brett/tartness in the taste. Slight velvety, slick mouthfeel. Medium-bodied. Ale-like aftertaste. Rather disappointing overall. I wonder how much this differs from the regular Petrus ale.
(Retasted 1/30 I'm wondering even more - a new tap yielded, especially in the taste (much less nose) a Cola-like spice combination, like mint, rosewater, cinnamon, rosemary) on top of a more malty base. The beer seemed darker too. Points changed accordingly.
