This was nice and roasty without being astringent. Coffee nose and subtle flavour. Hops were balanced as not to distract from the joe. Contains caffeine, so don’t drink too many at night. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 19, 2009 Tap at Misconduct Tavern. Deep brown beer with a very creamy tan head. Aroma is loaded with coffee and a light minerally maltiness on the back. Nice earthy component with lots of fresh brewed coffee aroma. There is a bit of light cocoa and roast on the back of the beer as well. The beer is lightly swet with a nice soft coffeeish flavour. It’s missing a bit of mid-palate complexity, but it’s still pretty tasty. BeerGestapo (740), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Poured a lusterous black body with a thin off-white head. Aroma was of chocolate, a lot of coffee, lactose, caramel, sweet malt, and even some piney hops at the end. Flavor however was somewhat less complex. It tasted of coffee beans, some dark chocolate, slightly licorice, and piney hops at the end. However a nutty wood and coffee feel lingered on the tongue afterwards. Palate felt as though the piney hops were bristling along the top of my tongue or perhaps it was just overcarbonated. However it was kind of thin for such a dark beer and not very complex either. Rather like a cold carbonated coffee that was slightly hoppy.
