crushinat0r (226), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 25, 2007 Deep colour, strong alcohol content gives it a very nice kick. Slightly bitter with a dark malty flavour. Hint of chocolate. Very smooth. Not for everyone as the strong alcohol does come through a bit. TimE (1111), Tokyo, Japan Dec 20, 2006 Dark brown color, with a light brown head. Brown sugar, burnt raisins, cherries and apricots in the nose. Malty body, cherries, chocolate truffles, oranges, brandy, strawberries exudes from the mouth. Dangerously drinkable and smooth. Chocolate strawberry finish. Yumm. mgermani (665), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 24, 2006 Pours a dark reddish-brown with a minimal head and some lace. Spicy, dark-malt aroma, some yeast. Wonderful roasted malt taste, creamy and porter-like, but similar to an imperial stout in the malting. Wonderful hops, and beneath it a layer of alcohol (peppery) and raisins. Good chewy body, fine carbonation, and a lingering warm mouthfeel. A much nicer barley wine than the Old Bad Cat, but also very different and hard to compare directly. Buy-again for sure! BeerandBlues2 (2678), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 7, 2007 650 mL bottle from CapFlu. Pours mahagony with a small creamy off-white head, good lacing, somewhat lasting. Average malt (caramel, bread), heavy hops (perfume, floral, pine), average yeast (dough) with notes of plum and apple. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, creamy palate and a bitter finish. Aroma is moderate sweetness, acidity and bitterness; creamy roasted caramel malt flavor. GregClow (2395), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 3, 2007 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, jerc & tupalev - courtesy of blankboy. Hazy mahogany with no head. Nice aroma - sweet and warm with big, resiny hops. Medium body. Sweet flavour with a bit of smoke, charred malt, and a nicely building warm bitterness in the finish. Very solid.
