Commercial Description:
Legendary prizefighter Gentleman Jim transformed the sport from a thuggish pastime into a higher scientific artform. So, if you think of your average beer as some knuckledusting, Phillips new ginger creation is a trip to a fine gallery for your tastebuds. Like Gentleman Jim, this spicy copper ale is not a heavy puncher, however it can still put you down for the count, but will graciously shake your hand when you come to.

Strong fresh ginger greets the nose as if you’d just grated some into the glass yet the sweetness of the underlying malts seems to have taken the edge off so that it’s not overly spicy. Clear deep golden body is topped by a decent, large bubbled white head that recedes to a thin but lasting cover with some slight lacing. Ginger flavour is strong and a bit woody with underlying cereal malt and bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. Very dry body with a wonderful lightly fizzy effervescence engages the tongue and cheeks. A very pleasant surprise! Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Sep-09.

Looking for something different I found it. Ginger pale ale with light ginger in the flavor. This was a tad to light for me. Good malt and hops more ginger would have been perfect butt his was a good beer and great with fish.

Pours a clear pale gold with no head to speak of. Aroma of fresh ginger - not powdered or artificial ginger - nice for a change! Light inoffensive ginger-beer taste, fresh light. Fine carbonation, thin mouthfeel. Easy drinking and much more tasteful than other local offerings (GI I’m looking at you!)

( 650ml bottle ) Purchased from Spinnakers Spirit Merchant in JamesBay (Victoria, BC) for $5.95 / bottle. I must admit, I did not know what to expect here, but this seems rather nicely balanced and, by the way its flying off the shelves, popular! Very fresh tasting and smelling ginger, not candied or overly soda pop like. Light malt and lingering bitterness. Pretty good showing!
