Clear deep copper coloured body is topped by a decent off white head that recedes to a thin, large bubbled cover with some lacing. Although the aroma suggests IPA the flavour certainly comes across as a bitter:caramel and toasty malt flavours blend nicely in a good balance with medium bitterness and plenty of fruitiness. Bitterness lingers in the somewhat grassy aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from fridge temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Oct-09.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 13, 2009 From Libations. Poured a dark and clear amber beneath a thin, tan head. Aroma was fabulously hoppy. Sure this isn’t an IPA? Flavour was deliciously bitter underscored with some malt. Bitter at the finish with an inkling of malt to take the edge off. Another fine beer by Phillips. Sure this isn’t an IPA?? JHunter (245), British Columbia, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Pours a pale clear nut-brown with a bit of lacing and not much of a head. Fantastic oily hop aroma - very promising! Light nutty slightly watered-down malting with oily but timid hops - no real bite or burn here, fresh but lacking punch, and lacking real malt character. Good body but light on the carbonation. Very tasty, but a bit of a let-down - try combining this with the Crazy 8s and you might have a winner...
Re-Rate: Bumped up the overall in light of Phillips (or Ratebeer) billing this as a bitter, which I guess it is. manuchampions (105), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 27, 2009 220z bottle from Brewery Creek. Nice pungent wet hop note on opening. Good copper colour with what ends up a thin head. I also expected a more IPA type taste but was pleasantly surprised that it was more a hoppy bitter (akin to Rogue’s Brutal Bitter). I didn’t get the fruit, melon hit but did detect some residual sweetness there. Finishes with pleasant bitterness and a trace of fresh hop again. Overall a good effort. turboespresso (70), Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 26, 2009 Bottle.Clear tan ale. Nice lasting head leaving lots of lace as you go. You can smell and taste the citrusy hops, well balanced with the mildly sweet malt. This beer sure tastes fresh. Gravelle (82), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

But let’s not get glum and let Seasonal Affective Disorder win out. Exactly Phillip’s, I have nothing else to say, I love this beer!
