CapFlu (3273), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jan 12, 2008 Updated: Jan 18, 2008 (650ml bottle) Purchased at the Strath for $6.00; though I’ve found it at the local BCLS for $4.60. Pours a lasting creamy beige head with an opaque body. Very much looks like a glass of espresso. Coffee richly leaches the air, cocoa power and alcohol follow suit. It has really been a while since I smelt anything so deep and embodying, this is something new to the West Coast of Canada. I’m wondering if this reminds me most of Peche Mortel? Chocolate malt makes a brief appearance in the front palate than wild punch of vanilla, burnt wood and dirty coffee grounds. If this is hometown bias - bring it on... in quantity! Well executed indeed, Matt.
Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Dkachur. The aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, coffee and ample roasted malt notes. The body she is a full black and holds a very thin tan head, that lasts much longer than I thought it could. Mild medicinal aspirin notes, but those fade quickly to render chocolate, dark fruit, coffee and a mildly dry fruit and toasted malt finish. Not great, but one of the better dark beers of a night full of dark brews. Ibrew2or3 (1685), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 2, 2008 Courtesy of Degarth. Pours black with thin mocha head. The aroma is mild with roastiness rolling into burnt malts pushing into an ashy region. The taste is smooth and blended and begins almost mildly as it heads toward midway for bolder brasher notes. It starts mildly roasty and becoming rich chocolate and then bold burnt malts. The flavor grows brighter into the finish. This beer has a light sensation for the style but very very tasty. DuffMan (1935), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 21, 2008 This was compared with Moylan’s and Bear Republic in the same session. Of the three, it had the most roast and the shortest dryest finish. While still an excellent beer, it did not have the complexity found in the other two. robinvboyer (985), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Apr 17, 2008 thanks to mgermani for the bottle!
pitch black, oil, thick pour, small tan head. Aroma roasted malt, dark fruit, burnt chocolate, and some hops. Flavour is smoky, and very very roasty, some burnt soy, and burnt chocolate, decent bittering in the finish. A good impy stout, not amazing, but good. fishingnet (803), Brandon, Florida, USA Apr 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a tan head that fades to a ring and leaves some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, smoke, and dark roasted coffee. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a moderate to strong amount of bitterness. Good.
