Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Sep 3, 2007 Updated: Nov 1, 2007 An interesting and admirable attempt at this style from one of BC’s best brewery. Extra points for effort. However, Surly Blonde could be a lot better. Did not seem big and beefy enough. Hardly any head. I think more flavors could be packed into each bottle. Definately too sweet and sticky.
touchpink (8), Rupert, British Columbia, Canada does not count Sep 8, 2008 very odd aroma. poured nicely with a decent head. Taste was far too much of alcohol for my liking. Very disappointed with this brew based on previous Phillips beers Enniskillen (1591), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Aug 24, 2008 Gold with a full white head. Aroma is yeast, light alcohol, malt, wheat, and spice. Taste is yeast, nutmeg, light fruit esters and alcohol. glkaiser (999), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 12, 2008 Clear copper. Fairly thick w/ light banana/citrus and yeast. Solid, and one of the most interesting brews I had in BC (Not exactly saying much). Definitely needs to cut down on the sweetness. sersdf (870), chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 25, 2008 draft at alibi room in vancouver. haha, this is hilariously poorly rated. i just got it since it said triple and seemed like the only thing here with the potential for [6% abv. pours an opaque orange golden, inhomogenous, some persistent head in the shape of a terrier head facing left. or a boot kicking right. aroma is miserable. urine infected cheese. oh my fucking god. taste is literally *shudder* bad. this is so wrong. maybe if labeled under belgian pale ale this might work, but it’s way closer to a screwed up jolly pumpkin or super fresh duvel than it is any triple i’ve had. which is to say, super sour and funky. there’s hardly any malt to speak of. i award this no points in flavor. i think i’ll throw it back, but i considered making it the first beer i’ve bought in a bar and chosen not to drink. holy god this bad. DuffMan (1962), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 14, 2008 Honey gold, moderate white head with medium retention, no lace. Odd vegetal aroma, like wet hay and day-old lettuce, and a hint of sesame (I know... what?!). Sweet palate that tastes like it has been steeped in dried straw, again the vaquely vegetal character that is quite off-putting, and a very subtle smokey note (cork board). This was weird, and not enjoyable.
