The rich, singed aroma is full of chocolate, light smoke, tobacco and charcoal. Medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. Leans on the sweet side of balance. Chocolate, charcoal and mild smoke. Finishes chocolaty and sweet. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Big black pour with an average head. Smell is roasted and nutty and has a nice subtle presence of smoke in there. It has a very nice smoked meat flavor with a background of nice balanced malt. Good palate. WickerBrew (312), Chicago, Illinois, USA

This is not overly ssmoked, but its there and it shouldnt be. Very smooth porter with some backbone that is overwhelmed by a touch of smoke. Its cool that they do something different, but this is not for me. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Smell is rich dark malt, smoky coffee, and dry chocolate. Taste is rich, roasty, smoky and robust flavorwise. Prickly carbonation with a medium body and this one comes highly recommended. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2008 Draught. Pours really dark, near black, with a small tan head. The aroma is supremely roasty with heavy ash, Rice Crispies, loads of dark chocolate, and toasted nuts. The mouthfeel is medium heavy with low carbonation. A solid dark chocolate flavor heavily lingers on the palate. Any smoked qualities which may have been imparted here do not seem meaty and perhaps only add to the largely roasted tone of the brew. This is milky, ashy, much like coffee, bittersweet, and very good. Driftwood6 (214), USA

The smoke flavor is balanced-- not overwhelming. And the porter had a nice body and taste to support the strong flavor. I’d be curious how they smoked it-- because it didn’t taste very peat to me. So doesn’t have that "Schlenkerla" flavor. But still very nicely done.
