Big black pour with an average head. Smell is roasted and nutty and has a nice subtle presence of smoke in there. It has a very nice smoked meat flavor with a background of nice balanced malt. Good palate.
sneagrams3 (1342), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 19, 2008 Tasted 4/30/08. 4th sample from the brewpub. Dark brown hue with a taupe ring of head. Anise and raisins & a touch port in the nose. Roasty toasty. Spotty head. Medium bodied. Toffee and anise flavors. English style. Mix of bark and toast with dark fruit and burnt sugar. Even throw a touch of smoke into the mix. Not quite my style. Gonna give it the meh... SQNfan (386), Wheaton, Illinois, USA May 17, 2008 Growler: Black in color with a thin head. The nose was smokey with added roasted aromas. The flavors in the mouth were similar to the nose. Medium-bodied and quite drinkable. Well made. hopscotch (4379), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 14, 2008 Draft… DLD’08… Pitch black beer with a small, creamy, everlasting, khaki-colored head. The rich, singed aroma is full of chocolate, light smoke, tobacco and charcoal. Medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. Leans on the sweet side of balance. Chocolate, charcoal and mild smoke. Finishes chocolaty and sweet. WickerBrew (235), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 1, 2008 OK so I do not like smoked beers, the taste of bacon is great but it just doesnt belong in a beer. This is not overly ssmoked, but its there and it shouldnt be. Very smooth porter with some backbone that is overwhelmed by a touch of smoke. Its cool that they do something different, but this is not for me.
