Commercial Description:
Piece's non-denominational holiday beer. It's a Belgian ale, reddish brown in color with hints of cloves, nuts, and fruit skin. No spices were used in this beer - all the flavors were produced naturally by this unique yeast.

tap at piece... dark brown, almost porter-like in appearance with a thin light brown head... aroma of dark fruit, fig, dates, and even some black licorice and brown sugar... dark fruit, rather sweet without much of any assertive spices. pretty drinkable with low carbonation and a nice creamy mouthfeel.

draft at the brewpub. i didnt pay a ton of attention to this because my date didnt get another drink so i kinda wanted to just down it as quickly as possible. plus i thought i had previously rated it. i kinda thought it was a spicy belgian dubbel. definitely had some chocolate character under it all, then spices over it. alcohol was pretty evident. very sugary, very carbonated, very light in body. OK.

This has got to be a BSA. It is somewhere between 10-12 % abv. Medium sized creamy creme colored head sits atop a dark mahogany body. Nice lacing. Nose is banana, dark candi sugar, and spice. Taste is the same. Mouthfeel is moderate and lightly carbonated. Finish is medium to long. Feels pretty run of the mill, I dont get much complexity.

I drank this beer for the rest of us.. at Piece. Poured a deep, healthy brown with a short-lived cap of beige head. The aroma picked up chocolate, caramel, and dark fruits with more than ample spicage.. dark overall and very seductive.. more chocolate emerged with warmth. The flavor had floral bitterness and peppery spicage over a sweet caramel, molasses, and chocolatey base.. spicy, warm finish.. very good! Thick and spicy on the palate with nice balance and some warmth at the end. Good one!

When this was delivered I got excited, smelled and looked like a winner. Unfortunetly the taste wasnt what I was hoping for. Maybe a little too sharp, and the balance of nutty spiciness didnt work for me. Not bad stuff, but I will be sticking to the wheat beers when I come back.

on tap at piece, pours reddish brown with white head. nose of cloves and dark fruits. flavor is malty with tobacco and caramel while being nicely spiced of cloves. smooth mouth feel. exactly what an ideal christmas beer is, dark spiced belgian ale, creamy and extremely drinkable. no spices used in this beer? wow, i can’t believe it. perhaps a blend of belgian and weizen yeast. i’d love to drink a few of these and air the grievences for a while. i’ve got a lot of problems with you people and now is the time you hear them!

Too strong of a beer to take a growler home! Aside from that disappointment, I did enjoy a sample of this brew. Winter ale type flavor, a little cinnamon.

An interesting brew from Piece. A very dark brown beer, interesting for a Belgian. Hints of cloves and not overpowering at all. I enjoyed it. Festivus for the rest of us.
