4/4/07 Sampled on tap at Piece. Not much aroma some malt and the surrounding wafts of pizza. (probably not the best setting for a rating) Medium brown in color with a tan head. Creamy stout, smooth, chocolate, roast. Flavors become rather dry, and pretty uninspiring. <5/3/6/3/11 = 2.8 br>
On tap and from a piece growler. Pours brown black with biege creamy head. Aromas of ash, coffee, roast, and malt. Light malt flavors that are roasted and lightly bitter. Dry roast finish. Decent beer. 6/4/6/3/13 = 3.2

On tap at Piece. Poured a clear, deeper brown with a short beige head... leaving a loose-bubbled ring after a short while. Arome was of very sweet chocolate.. lightly-roasted with plum sweetness as well... some earthy bitterness. Flavor was of dry-roasted milk chocolate with some grainy herbal bitterness... unexpected alcohol presence toward the back along with some of the fruits from the aroma. Lighter-bodied with grainy chocolate notes... sweet with too much alcohol evident. Not a very good stout.

Draught, early 2006 version: fairly black, thin than head. Roasted cherry aroma with a strong campfire bitterness. Candish fruit flavour with a distinct lactic creaminess and smooth mouthfeel. Tangy fruit finish, but lacking much depth – drinkable and tasty.

Kind of a thin stout, a watery near black with little head to write of. The aroma was a subdued roasted coffee with some dark fruitiness. The flavor was a light roasted barley with coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and a nutty bitterness presumably from the hops, leaving a sharp, bitter finish.

Deep black over red, under oily and tan. Fruity aroma with an oily coffee bean presence. Roasted and thin, bittersweet with coffee and mild chocolate. Oiliness with astringency makes for an odd, bitter finish. (Rating #10 for this, so let’s see if I make it or break it...)

I was disappointed in this one...with its thin mouthfeel, weird blend of roasty sweetness and lactic sour milk. I found things to like in it( coffee, chocolate, toffee) but, as a whole it falls short in most catagories per style.

Dark brown wuth a thin, tan head. Interesting aroma of roasted coffee and sour cardboard. Cigarette ash, toasted bread, coffee, mild, earthy hop character, some light alcohol and dry biscuits. The body is moderately full and fairly smooth, probably not nitro-tapped, so that’s a plus. The flavor profile is unique to me: roasted and sour. Seemingly, this is lactic acid and roasted malts, mashed up, and it’s not that good to me. Mild bits of coffee and floral hop bitterness come through at times. Usually, however, it’s biting sour character upfront before transmogrifying into a roasted, bitter stout. Perhaps this is meant to resemble the old-school porter with fresh beer blended with stale beer, but this doesn’t really do much for me. Not going to be a regular in my trips to Piece.
