Humulone_Red (743), Vancouver, Washington, USA Nov 28, 2004 Daught. Murky dark copper color with good and and lacing. Nice apricot/grapefruit nose. Piny bitterness good malt background for balance with big citrus/grapefruit notes. This is very drinkable IPA. iwantalambic (1359), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 14, 2004 Draught, under the name “Baron von Awesome”: hazed gold. Thick, creamy head seems to rise and fall with each sip & boasts strong pinesap and lemon aromatics. Palate is very smooth, with tight, crisp carbonation. Flavour is wrapped up in a unique sweet (orange juice) and sour (bitter resin) combination that is very palatable and darn good. TAR (1996), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Nov 13, 2004 Draft: Rich apricot. Thick, milky foam scatters clumpy lace all over the glass. Wickedly fresh hop nose of sap, spicy pine and citrus rind. Honeysuckle, graham, and jellied malt whispers. Creamy carbonation. Supple, palate-coating resinous hops waver to take on more of an orange pulp flavor. Extraordinarily bright hop character with a coarsely herbal, slightly medicinal edge that deepens the softer hop components. Gentle tropical fruit acidity couples with dried apricot astringency and peach fuzz. Faint yeast flavor. Fairly dull center shows some toasty biscuit malt sweetness, which soon succumbs to the immense resinous, tangerine-flavored hoppiness. Closes softly citrusy, yet still piney and stingingly bitter underneath, as the hops continue to wreak numbing havoc on the tip of the tongue amid breaths of cedar and minty alcohol. Fresh-tasting hop belches ensue due to the vast dry-hopping. Very tasty. Frank (1061), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 11, 2004 A crisp and satisfying IPA. I tried this directly after the Festival and Barrel Aged Beers in Chicago and this managed to not taste boring next to some fine barrel aged. Nose is big with grapefruit and other citrus notes. Medium bodied and very crisp with a healthy dose of bitterness in the finish. jsquire (1863), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Nov 9, 2004 On tap at the brewpub. Red-orange color with a flowery citrus nose of fresh grapefruit. Great hop dominance of grapefruit rind and apple sauce. Candy bar sweetness. Very enjoyable IPA.
