Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Pours a dark brown colour with a full, thick sweet head. Very nutty hint of oak- Definately some smokey character, midpalate its very malty and smooth. Lighter then what im used to for a scotch, but tastey and creamy all the way through on the palate.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium thin and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt, hops and caramel. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, and hops. Light smoke in the background as well. The finish is rich and sweet with a lingering caramel malt aftertaste. Above average all around.

Pours a fairly clear burnt siena color. Tastes malty sweet but is subdued compared to the predominantly smoky nature of the beer. My first introduction to scotch ales and certainly not my last.

Draught @ City Grill - Pretty mild aroma of yeast and grain, flavour is simply toasted malts and slight hay. The alcohol wasn’t overt for me, rather like I was aware of its presence but didn’t notice it. It might have been because the restaurant was pretty crappy and watering down the beers, but it was still enjoyable. I liked this beer...

[1097-20080216] Tap @ Pike brewpub (Seattle, WA). Toasted bread yeast aroma. Clear, dark amber red body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Fruity roasted malt flavour with a sweet finish and eventually noticeable alcohol. Medium body is thick. Nice malt.

Bottle. Pours brown with minimal head that quickly disperses. Nice malt aroma. Flavors of roast and malt with alcohol taste. Bit light in body.

Poured amber from 12 ounce bottle. Sweet, winey, nice balance. Minimal head and lacings. A fine tasting brew. Malts are dominant. My first Scottish Ale. Would love to sample on tap. Recommended.
