ratman197 (3135), Arvada, Colorado, USA Dec 21, 2007 Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, tobacco, light fruitiness and hints of leather and peat. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, tobacco and brown sugar with a smooth finish. Not a bad beer but not as flavorful as I expect a Scotch ale to be. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 17, 2007 Pours a dark amber, slightly brown-copper body with a minuscule head. Bold and sweet Scottish with smokey peatiness and a hint of whisky in a rather mild strong ale (if this is possible). Solid brew. douglas88 (1555), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Nov 16, 2007 Updated: Aug 6, 2008Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a decent head. The taste is: some hops, a caramel and malty semi-sweetness, and a smokey burnt flavor. Smooth and medium body. There is no more than a hint of scotch or the 6.6%. A good one. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Nov 15, 2007 Notes from the night say this exactly: Dark copper. Light chocolate aroma. Chocolate, smoke, and leather in the flavor. Good Shit! CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Nov 6, 2007 (Draught) Sampled at the brewpub on October 17, 2007. Very sweet, toffee candies with tons of English malt. Poor balance and overly sweetened. TheLeadDog (101), Kent, Washington, USA Nov 1, 2007 A good Ale. Not to sweet. Nice dark color with little head. Slightly dry with good malt and carmel flavors. I liked this beer and buy it often. Great with steak!!!! cathcacr (585), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 22, 2007 A bit mild and on the watery side. Had this just after Dick’s Grand Cru, and I’m at a loss as to how their average ratings here are nearly identical. I get a cool fresh-breezy kind of aroma for some reason. It’s fruit, but like regular grapes. Palate is just extra-watery, and flavor is quite middling. The aroma is the only interesting part.

Tranquillity (1165), Espoo, Finland Oct 17, 2007 Bottle. Scotch ale? This has nothing to do with an "authentic heave Scotch ale", but it is drinkable nevertheless. Brown/copper colour, small beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma of oak, smoke, not very sweet. The beer reminds me of a pale ale, dry, malty, with a dry-hopped reminescense of some industrial cleanser [after reading other reviews, it’s actually more like vinegar]. Drinkable, but not too balanced.
