Aroma of butterscotch and light cat pee. In mouth, a more astringent hops over very robust caramel, with treacle in finish, a bit peaty, but the hops are again very herbal, and the profile is veering towards an Orval (Brett). Interesting but definite infection. Bottle from Sherbrooke Liquors, Edmonton, Early 2007. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Head was foamy, white, and left some decent lace behind. Smelled of light brown sugar. Pretty one dimensional. Dry on the tongue with distinct smoky malt and tobacco flavors accented by mild hop bitterness. Bobsy (194), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Picked up a single 12-oz bottle via trade with Enniskillen. Pours a semi-clear coppery amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that has some good lacing and off-white ring. Aroma of oatmeal malt, some soy sauce, smoked wood and a touch of sweet red berries. Taste is medium bodied, very little carbonation with a caramel malt and dark berry flavor. Finish is semi-sweet, smooth and creamy with a slight scotch ale (peat/caramel malt) aftertaste. Didn’t quite lift my kilt but a pretty good scotch ale. tytoanderso (1386), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA

I think some more Scotch-like flavors would become more present as it warms. Pours a hazy gold. Lots of malted grain, some caramel and a decent amount of hops on the palate. Medium bodied with good carbonation. illinismitty (1795), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

This was a strange beer experience, because this transformed as it warmed, and not for the better. So my notes are based on my initial reaction. Pours deep reddish brown with an off white head. Sweet berry and malty aroma. Medium bodied with softer carbonation than the other Pike beers on tap, and slightly thin texture. Dark caramel-like maltiness, that is sweet and countered by some tobacco and subtle smoked peat. Short finish. robforbes (1085), Bremerton, Washington, USA

on-tap at pike pub in seattle.
pours a dark amber with a red tint, with little to no head and some lacing.
smells of some berry, malt, sweet, caramel, butterscotch, some hops, some nuts.
taste oily, flat, has a sweet start then ends bitter, malt, some roasted nuts, some butterscotch, becomes more bitter as it warms.
