Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a head of foamy finely sized bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent uncarbonated golden brown colored body and a fair lacing. The weak aroma was malty and softly copper. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The smooth flavor contained notes of malt and mild hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Pours a nice mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma of biscuit malt, caramel, raisin and dark fruit, with a tinge of spicy hop. Flavour was a little light in the finish but quite smooth. Again raisin and dark fruit compliment a nice smokey sour malt body. Very drinkable for a ’heavy scottish’

Bottle. Clear copper-orange with a small, sorta lasting head. Earthy, metallic spicy molasses nose, with a hint of citrus. Flavors of spicy, metallic barley and oats cereal sweetened with honey-molasses. Just a touch of smoke and sourness carries the flavors throughout. Mostly smooth palate: medium-bodied, slightly watery and tingly. Excellent balance and fairly tasty, but feels like a bit more body is needed to push this one up.

Draught sample. Light soy, smoky malt aroma with just a bit of light fruity hops. Mild aroma, but pleasant. Amber brownish clear with foamy off-white lacing head. Meidum body with medium carbonation. Medium heavy sweetness and brown sugar, toffee. Really nice smoky undertones, followed by a medium smoky bitterness. Neutral fruits and golden raisins. Sweet smoky finish and smoked malt after. Very nice bit of peat.

Bottle. Brown with bubbly white head. Strong malty aroma. Fruity with strong malt and some peatiness in the finish. I liked this, but probably wouldn’t drink more than one at a time.
