Not as “ruby” as advertised. this bottle a little flat. I taste the water more than I taste the malt, thin for a scotch ale. Delicate flavor, appley, peat smoke, dark caramel in the back. hopscotch (5472), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Bottle... Hazy orange ale with a small, fizzy, white head. Malty, beefy aroma with a rumor of wood. Malty, sweet flavor with lots of toffee and caramel and a hint of wood. Nicely hopped to keep that sweetness in check. Full-bodied and oily with lively carbonation. Finishes moderately malty and a touch woodsy. Thanks to Kenb for shipping this gem my way! fakepurseninja (777), Washington, USA

Light on flavor offerings, this one really hits you full force with its strength. A real one-trick-pony with some nice sweet fruit essence combined with its heavy malt body.
Re-rate - Caramel maltiness along with sweet toffee. Sizable peat and earth character. beerabill (14), Silverdale, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2006 Bottle. Light brown, small off white head short lasting. Very lacy all around my glass. Very sweet for a scotch, different in that it is very malty with an alcohol tinge without the content, interesting. Carmel slight hoppy palate. Finish is very smooth. Its not my Fat Bastard, but an interesting scotch never the less. harrisoni (6771), Ashford, Kent, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2006 On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Amber with lasting beige head. Candy sugar, syrupy malt aroma. Some weird vanillary malt in mouth. Very light smoke. Actually I quite like the flavours. Malts are balanced by a tingly hop finish. Best tasting in the mouth so far of the Pike beers. duffman462 (160), Gainesville, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 16, 2006 I very much enjoyed this beer. Very nice aroma, with some citrus and earthy tones. Reddish amber color. Flavor is rich with caramel malts, and a nice hoppy and peaty finish. Perhaps a bit too sweet, and it could use a bit more peat for a scotch ale, but nonetheless a very nice, enjoyable beer. benpickens (130), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is very light. Lightly fruited caramel malt, light light chocolate wood, some pine. Very pleasant and delicate.
Some bitter grapefruit juice mostly covered by peaty malt and spices. A little dry, a little sweet. Pretty good.
