Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

On tap. Pours a cloudy light brown with a small head on top. Aroma is mostly malty with caramel, fruit, and spice coming through. Flavor is mostly a fruit spiciness. Could taste some hops in there also. A decent beer for a crappy bar.

12 oz bottle via Liquid Solutions. Pours a hazy amber with a small head. Nose is strong and spicey with notes of pepper, ginger, and alcohol. Tastes like is smells with a somewhat metaalic cardboardy aftertaste. Pretty good and would be real winnder if the aftertaste were better...

Bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown color with a 1/4 in head. I found the aroma to not be as malty as I had expected...but malt was dominant characteristic. Taste is much the same, though I did detect a small amount of hoppiness and something else. I guess it was the peat. Decent and very drinkable, but nothing I would necessarily search out again.

tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-amber with a thin head that has some lacing. The aroma is primarily of caramel malts. The flavor is similar with a touch of fruitiness and a smidgen of spice. The ale has a medium body and a lightly carbonated feel leading into a fairly mild finish.

From the bottle this pours a rich caramel color with slight highlights of red. The head is a slender light tan that laces nicely throughout the drinking. The aroma is rich with malt - caramel & toffee with a touch of butterscotch - and filled with juicy fresh apples. The malts dominate the flavor with the addition of some peat smoke, the fruit tastes reduced to a supporting role. There’s an alcohol dryness to the finish. Nice.

Potent and ’herbal’ scotch ale. Uniquely flavored though I don’t care much for it.

Bottled. Reddish amber colour, minor head. Aroma is hops and lots of fruits. Flavour is spices, caramel and dry fruits. While drinking there is a strong sweetish "sting" of something gingerlike. Too spiced in my opinion, but not that bad.
