mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Aug 10, 2005 Bottled. Pours a light amber color. Aroma is slightly sweet and malty. Some fruity caramel like aromas as well. Somewhat sweet with a little bit of malt. A hint of roastiness in the finish. Some creamy scotch qualities as well. BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Jul 21, 2005 This was a good beer. Pike has some others that are also just as nice. The flavor was very nice and the hint of peat added to the hops flavor. I like what Pike is brewing. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2005 On draft at Humpy’s Alaskan Ale House, 7/6/05: This is a red beer with little aroma. Medium to harsh cooked sugars predominate with a middle of the road caramel finish. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 8, 2005 On Tap at Kahootz: I expected something that was going to lift my kilt a little bit, but I was disappointed with this one. Flavors of cola were noticed and a good balance of malts and hops. Overall, not that great. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Jun 18, 2005 On tap @ Pike: Clear Amber, small off-white head. Some caramel, slight peat & smoke, light fruity undertones, not bad. maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 19, 2005 Draught @Pike Pub. Deepest amber color, leaning towards cherry; or, the last tea-colored vestiges of a perfect sunset. Almost no head. Aroma is bread and butter with strawberry jam and a trace of seaweed. Flavor of rich butter scones with the slightest hint of caramel; then a blast of blackberry, schnapps-like in intensity. Very odd. Full, round palate. Dry finish with a lingering tannic/bitter aftertaste that becomes almost peppery after a while. Okay in general, but c’mon, “Scottish”??? FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA May 18, 2005 Thanks to SNOB for the bottle. Auburn amber color, small fizzy white head dissapates quickly. Malty aroma with a tinge of hop spiciness. Sweet caramel malt flavors comingle with a rather fruity ester profile. The nose fairly sweet, whereas the finish is predominately residual fruit character. The mouthfeel is a bit watery. beerbabybeer (39), langley, Washington, USA May 4, 2005 tap. this beer is a rather flat looking amber, head was small and did not last. this beer does not have a significant release of gasses. it smells nice, malty, sweet, some hop bitterness, with a good nose of brandy. taste is similar and smooth, slightly tart and sweet, smokey malts and some dried fruit. mouthfeel is a bit flat, but at least it goes down smoothly. finish is nice and a bit bitter-sweet. vaguely reminds me of a few strong ipa’s i’ve had. a solid beer.
