Starts lightly sour with some mild caramel toffee sweetness. Finishes with a tart body and a touch of bitterness. Thanks to harlequinn for bringing this to the Georgia 14% gathering. Well anyway this was a good simple beer. The flavor was malty and creamy with some caramel and grapes in the flavor. I detected some chocolate in there as well. A bit on the sweet side but I liked it. cstuartj (305), Washington, USA

My first ’Scoth Ale’ was expecting more of a Scotch Whiskey taste to it, but was supprised a a complex yet easy drinking brew of very new style to me. I highly recommend it. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 25, 2004 Bottle pours reddish golden, small white milkish head, very light carbonation, with spotty lacing.   Aroma of malts, some toffee or caramel, and light smokiness.   Forwardly smokey, slighty peaty/malty, with some semi-sweet character.   Finishes with a slight bitterness, but moreso a malty semi-sweet caramel flavor.   This is a rather easy to drink, non-offensive Scotch Ale.   Slight smokey on the aftertaste.   Fairly tasty this is...

Slightly syruppy texture, and really not a hell of a lot more, scotch ales are always a bit hit and miss with me though. DomiNate (123), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Copper infused rust color, a bit of chill haze to it, large and thickly fluffed beige head sits well for a while before descending to a thin collar and the lacing sticks in strings and spots. Aroma is super yummy malt goodness, thick and dark caramel, super nice peat moss thats not overly smokey, but favorlaby earthy and has a terrific sweetness to it overall. Taste follows suit with a brigade of dark caramel and toffee sweetness with super nice earth tones and breadiness to make it rich and thick. Again the peat is there but not overwhelmingly smokey, it adds just enough to it to really go "Wow". Hops play underneath more towards the finish with a slight spice and bite helping the end of warmth and add to some of the slight dryness. Great feel, nearly full, very well rounded, and toothsweet smoothness and the low carbonation makes this a creamy thick treat to drink. The first thing that came to mind, and only after a few sips, is that its a whole hell of alot like a good barleywine. But without all the baggage of the higher ABV. A real plus and incentive to get alot more of this in the future, as it is quite a malty, yummy treat. One I would keep in my fridge alot if I could get it. Yummy! Did I already say that?

Very well balanced despite the relatively high alcohol content. Strong flavor isn’t too overbearing, so it goes down easily. GREAT value, can usually get a 6-pack for less than $7.00.
