stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 8, 2009 Very big caramel malt body. Slight estery-ness combined with a nice smokey peat nose. Very good beer, a nice style of scotch ale. DigitalMan (113), Idaho, USA Jun 6, 2009 Updated: Oct 21, 2009Feel was sort of watery, but flavor was stronger and fuller. Malty with a bit of hops. Nothing special. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Jun 1, 2009 On Tap at the Pike Brewery. Poured a really nice dark orange color with a thin off white head. Aroma was big caramel toffee and malt. Flavor was sweet, but had a nice balancing hop bitterness. Well balanced. Really nice scotch ale. jrob21 (1250), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 25, 2009 Meaty smokey flavor with bitter grapefruit hop finish. Similar hop profile to the pale with some added malt characteristics in here. gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA May 23, 2009 Updated: Sep 22, 2009Much, much, MUCH better the second time. On tap; poured a red mahogany with an offwhite head and some lace. Aroma was nearly pure butterscotch. The taste was more of the same, with a slight hint of chili and a definite smokiness. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA May 23, 2009 courtesy of BA trade.
Pours copper, off white head.
Aroma malty grains, light bread/dough that also become present int eh taste.
Light in body, with hints of caramel, pine hops TheDudeAbides (7), USA does not count May 16, 2009 At 6% ABV, not quite strong enough too lift my kilt, but I will raise another glass. Smokey and amber, good aroma, and a great aftertaste. Light enough to have a 3-4 without losing taste. Try it with Stuffed Jalepenos form Jack-In-The-Box, sounds strange but it’s like drinking wine with cheese. Some people say it is too smokey...I don’t think so. Might also taste good with some red meat. vulcanmeister (102), La Grande, Oregon, USA May 12, 2009 Poured from12oz bottle. Medium amber liquid with a short lasting vigorous white head. The aroma was quite different, smoky and biscuity. The flavor was smoky, earthy, tart, a wee bit bitter, which was the major note that lasted. Only 6.5% but seemed stronger for some reason. Mouth feel was light and crisp. A bit of malty sweetness and lingering dried plum in the aftertaste. it grows on you, quite drinkable. A right comfortable scotch ale.
