Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

At 6% ABV, not quite strong enough too lift my kilt, but I will raise another glass. Smokey and amber, good aroma, and a great aftertaste. Light enough to have a 3-4 without losing taste. Try it with Stuffed Jalepenos form Jack-In-The-Box, sounds strange but it’s like drinking wine with cheese. Some people say it is too smokey...I don’t think so. Might also taste good with some red meat.

Poured from12oz bottle. Medium amber liquid with a short lasting vigorous white head. The aroma was quite different, smoky and biscuity. The flavor was smoky, earthy, tart, a wee bit bitter, which was the major note that lasted. Only 6.5% but seemed stronger for some reason. Mouth feel was light and crisp. A bit of malty sweetness and lingering dried plum in the aftertaste. it grows on you, quite drinkable. A right comfortable scotch ale.

Beer pours amber color, cloudy with an off white head that is retained. Aroma is right on with lots of caramel maltiness, very light peat. The flavor nails th style for me with lots of sweet caramel goodness, just a touch of peat and a little hopiness to give it just a bit of balance. Very nice scoth ale.

Tap@Brewpub, 6.5% ABV. Malty and light peaty aroma. Amber colour, beige head, good lace. Sweet, bitter, peaty, herbal hops, nutty. Sticky and soft mouth feel. Flavourful and highly drinkable.

Pours garnet into a thistle. Creamy white micro head with excellent retention leaves no lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Apple and caramel aromas. Sweet and full with caramel upfront and a dry pit fruit finish.

On tap at Pike in Seattle. Caramelly in color. Aroma was pretty light; with some caramel and peat, but not much. Flavor was smoky, peat, caramel. A bit harsh on the palate, which was a bit detracting. Still it was ok.

the aroma is rich and slightly smokey and a little bit sweet. And then it goes down hill. The taste is ridiculously smokey. In the end it is beer. Just not good beer.

Bottle drank with angrypirate06. Pours with a hazed burn brown color underneath a quick to fade, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, light peat, honey, prunes and very light hops. Taste is quite smokey and peaty with caramel, dark fruits and an odd yeastiness. Thin mouthfeel, watery with light carbonation.
