Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Dark copper in color with a medium sized off-white head. Aromais of malt, peat, and a light smokiness. Taste is of a little smoke and toffee, but is kind of weak.

This actually has some merit. Pours a brownish orange color with a small off white head. Notes of smoked malt and rich caramel and toffee dominate this earthy beer. Some fruitiness is present but it is subdued. Thin mouthfeel. Not bad overall.

22oz bottle. Brown pour, with a slightly reddish hue, with an off-white head. Aroma of caramel, peat, earth and tootsie rolls. Flavor of peat and earth, with caramel and smoke. Medium body. Peat and smoke linger on the palate. Nice.

Hazy, dark orange pour. Very little head to speak of, and hardly any carbonation sensed on the mouthfeel either. The aroma is probably the best thing this beer has going for it; so pleasant. An immediate bitter taste greets you, but is weaker than expected. A hoppy, bitter aftertaste lingers but is not overpowering. This beer was nothing to speak ill about but I was expecting more.

12 oz bottle. Pours amber-copper with off-white head. The aroma is some fruity esters, dried pineapple, apricot, and the like; there is also a pretty strong dose of decomposing leaves and cheap whisky. The flavor is earthy with some distant fruity notes and hints of oak and peat. There’s a sweetness that is mild at first, but gains strength toward the finish. Some papery hops finish it off to temper the sweetness. Decent enough, but I’m not all that impressed.

Poured a clear amber with a nice foamy 2 finger head. Aroma is earthy and caramel. A bit sweet, peppery, heavy malt, with a bit of the smoke. Finishes very fruity.
