Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

12 oz bottle. Pours amber-copper with off-white head. The aroma is some fruity esters, dried pineapple, apricot, and the like; there is also a pretty strong dose of decomposing leaves and cheap whisky. The flavor is earthy with some distant fruity notes and hints of oak and peat. There’s a sweetness that is mild at first, but gains strength toward the finish. Some papery hops finish it off to temper the sweetness. Decent enough, but I’m not all that impressed.

Poured a clear amber with a nice foamy 2 finger head. Aroma is earthy and caramel. A bit sweet, peppery, heavy malt, with a bit of the smoke. Finishes very fruity.

Shared at the superpower beer session in Tårnrommet, part one. Clear, amber-ruby content with a filmy-like head. Aroma is a mix of wood, oak and malts. Rich malty taste profile with a fragile peaty touch. Fine drinkability. Thanks to Stefan and Elisabeth for carrying a 355ml bottle all the way from Seattle to Tromsø [13.01.2009].

Pours a hazy copper color from the bottle with a beige head. Looks, smells, and tastes nothing like a scotch ale. If anything, I would gesture that this is an abbey dubbel. Aroma and flavor of overripe red apples, cinnamon, caramel, and faint pear. A bit high in water content, but not bad.

(11/3/08) Bottle sample at a tasting in Pizza Port in Carlsbad (thanks whoever) Muddy brown. Aroma of malt, earthy hints and some caramel. Sweetish and slightly odd flavor with some graininess, malt, caramel and some fruitiness.

This was a really nice beer and Scotch Ales have been hitting the spot for me this winter. Poured a dark amber hue with a foamy bubbly head. There’d better be some nice alcoholic sweetness on the nose to any good Scoth Ale and this one did not disappoint. Mouthfeel was smooth and tingly with apple, peach, scotch, malty flavours cascading over the senses genlty and settling me into a nice state to slumber like a bear.

Smell is caramel, malts, sweet, peat desserty. Look is amber to red in color not much of its off white head. Taste is caramel, malts, sweet, fruit, and peat. Missing and disappointing.

500 ML bottle. Pours dark with a smallish head. Aroma is malt with a good sweet dirt flavor. Pretty easy going and sessionable despite the 6.6
