Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Clear sparkling amber, thin fizzy off white head. Nose held notes of soft smoked caramel malt, toffee, and cherry, with touches of leather. Flavor was lightly smoked malt and caramel up front with a light hop bitterness late. Overall, decent balance ensues. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, semi- bittersweet finish . It’s aiiight...

12 oz bottle. Pours amber-copper with off-white head. The aroma is some fruity esters, dried pineapple, apricot, and the like; there is also a pretty strong dose of decomposing leaves and cheap whisky. The flavor is earthy with some distant fruity notes and hints of oak and peat. There’s a sweetness that is mild at first, but gains strength toward the finish. Some papery hops finish it off to temper the sweetness. Decent enough, but I’m not all that impressed.

A copper color I think? It was pretty dark at the Summits Tavern. Well anyway this was a good simple beer. The flavor was malty and creamy with some caramel and grapes in the flavor. I detected some chocolate in there as well. A bit on the sweet side but I liked it.

deep amber pour with a ring of froth no real head. huge caramel malts with slight fruits on the nose. very malty with a slight smokey finish and the caramel is quite bold in this one. not too bad in my book.

Amber, nice white head. Sweet aroma, with a light hoppiness, some raisin. Taste is caramel, dried fruit, dates, lightly hoppy background.

More hops than I expected for a scottish style ale, but like Three Floyds Rob’t the Bruce it is more akin to my taste. I finally realized the definition of ’peaty’ when I tasted this. A little pricy, especially when more actual Scottish ales are arriving more often.
