Doesn't show any of the 6.6% its advertised to be. Where's the peat thats in the aroma? Nowhere to be found in the flavor. Zinister (1207), Houston, Texas, USA

A little sweet malt with earthy notes. Don’t get much hops. Rather flat...maybe oxidized. Caramel and mushrooms on the finish. OldMrCrow (1200), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours a light orange with an aroma that seems limited when the beer is cold but which develops a pleasing complexity as it warms. The mouth is rich without being heavy, and lively in its carbonation.
The taste is warm malt, with a creme brule sweetness and hints of seaweed, smoke, oak, and cognac. The alcohol, while noticable, adds to the richness. Rather than forsaking the hops, the brewers have balanced the rich malt with enough hops to provide a spicy complement to the other favors to round out the finish with a pleasing bitter note.
Thi s is a first-rate beer, and probably my favorite of Pike’s offerings. Hopistotle420 (1178), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 22, 2003 Golden amber hue. Malty nose with a subtle hint of floral hops. Great malts, medium body, faint smoke, lightly stoney, with a very nice hopped up finish. A well balanced, easy-drinking brew, although I wasnt about to lift my kilt. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Bottle. Scotch ale? This has nothing to do with an "authentic heave Scotch ale", but it is drinkable nevertheless. Brown/copper colour, small beige head that disappears quickly. Aroma of oak, smoke, not very sweet. The beer reminds me of a pale ale, dry, malty, with a dry-hopped reminescense of some industrial cleanser [after reading other reviews, it’s actually more like vinegar]. Drinkable, but not too balanced. carruthm (1167), Seattle, Washington, USA
