This beer is much better on tap at their brew house in Seattle, but that was a few years back, so I'll rate the bottle. Must be drank at 55-59 to let it open up. A little smokey roasted malt with good balace on the hops. Nice finish, not Pikes best, but an alright brew. ditmier (1114), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Apr 15, 2008 Draught @ City Grill - Pretty mild aroma of yeast and grain, flavour is simply toasted malts and slight hay. The alcohol wasn’t overt for me, rather like I was aware of its presence but didn’t notice it. It might have been because the restaurant was pretty crappy and watering down the beers, but it was still enjoyable. I liked this beer... robforbes (1105), Bremerton, Washington, USA

on-tap at pike pub in seattle.
pours a dark amber with a red tint, with little to no head and some lacing.
smells of some berry, malt, sweet, caramel, butterscotch, some hops, some nuts.
taste oily, flat, has a sweet start then ends bitter, malt, some roasted nuts, some butterscotch, becomes more bitter as it warms.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 19, 2004 Pours a light golden amber hue with a small white head. Aromas of straw, a little caramel and a little roasted. Flavors of honey, roasted malts, a slight smokiness, and caramel. Mouthfeel is meduim bodied and goes down smooth. This was a lot better than I had thought, yet is is the "lighter scotch ale" that so badly want this not to be. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Nose is strong and spicey with notes of pepper, ginger, and alcohol. Tastes like is smells with a somewhat metaalic cardboardy aftertaste. Pretty good and would be real winnder if the aftertaste were better... Reid (1092), Salem, Oregon, USA
