Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Bottle from Scrizz, thanks. Pours a nice golden amber with a thin off white head. The head disapates quickly, but laces well. Has a smokey aroma of fruit and malts. Has a good carbonation. The flavor is mild but good. Has a spiciness too it but not too much. Has a medium body. A watery texture. A real good finish with a nice aftertaste. I like it.

Reviewed 7/24/2009 (bottle): Cloudy brown color body, small off-white head, quickly diminishing. Malty sweet aroma, syrupy. Earthy. English malty taste, biscuity. Sweet, but not syrupy. Scotchy taste, maybe butterscotch. Not bad, not too headache inducing.

Toasted, sweet, carmel aroma that's very appealing; full bodied and flavorful with some smoked peat, carmel, and some fruit; fairly smooth with a little bit of a late bite on the palate; a great brew for the money, quite flavorful.

Gooood Schtuff. Very heavy on the malt flavors without seeming too one-sided. This beer is a good example of why I love scottish ales. Fruity, yes...I got a lot of pineapple and peach, but smokey this is not. In fact, this aspect was prominently absent, and to me the peatiness is one of the defining characteristics of a Scottish Ale. Good but not great; needs a little more polish. Also, I got the same, funky MSG aftertaste that I got with Dogfish Head's Raison d'Etre; interesting. A little light in appearance for the style...ruddy beer is OK by me.

Marty McFly could sum up this ale pretty well "Heavy.." Light on flavor offerings, this one really hits you full force with its strength. A real one-trick-pony with some nice sweet fruit essence combined with its heavy malt body. Re-rate - Caramel maltiness along with sweet toffee. Sizable peat and earth character.

7/20/08 On draught at the Dog & Pony, Renton, Wa. Aroma is grape candy forward followed by caramel malt. Appearance is clear copper with a well maintained white head. Flavor is all sweet malt forward, citrusy, with caramel and medium bittering. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy, medium/full bodied with a medium carb bite and acid tang. Overall, rich and sweet, but never overwhelmingly sweet.

22 oz shared with Bman1113vr. Nice red-brown color with a quickly receding head. Raisins on the nose, with some additional yeast. Smoky flavor up front with a nice bit of malty sweetness.

Tasted at the Pizza Port Bottle shop in November with some other Ratebeer folks. Dont know who brought this one. Average to under-average Scotch Ale. Sweet malty flavor with and earthy and smoky aroma. Finishes thin with some tones of dark fruit. Not much body and a bit of a metallic aftertaste.
