| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 14, 2009 This Scottish ale poured into rich, dark, and clear amber colour underneath a foaming off-white head, albeit on the small side. The aroma was quite malty with some undertones of hops, and it was quite pleasing to the nose. The taste was very much as I’d expected a Scottish to be, with malt sweetness and what I thought might be some caramel as well. Mouthfeel was "solid", and the finish was quite right. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA

A fine tasting brew. Malts are dominant. My first Scottish Ale. Would love to sample on tap. Recommended. Hoss (602), Florida, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 9/20 | Oct 22, 2007 A bit mild and on the watery side. Had this just after Dick’s Grand Cru, and I’m at a loss as to how their average ratings here are nearly identical. I get a cool fresh-breezy kind of aroma for some reason. It’s fruit, but like regular grapes. Palate is just extra-watery, and flavor is quite middling. The aroma is the only interesting part.

The colour is a kind of reddish brown. Aroma is dominated by some kind of smokey-whiskeyflavor thatr I like, but is strange. A special beer. maltdog (517), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 19, 2005 Draught @Pike Pub. Deepest amber color, leaning towards cherry; or, the last tea-colored vestiges of a perfect sunset. Almost no head. Aroma is bread and butter with strawberry jam and a trace of seaweed. Flavor of rich butter scones with the slightest hint of caramel; then a blast of blackberry, schnapps-like in intensity. Very odd. Full, round palate. Dry finish with a lingering tannic/bitter aftertaste that becomes almost peppery after a while. Okay in general, but c’mon, “Scottish”??? Delirium (501), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2006 Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish-brown with a minimal head. Aroma is caramel malts, with a bit of smokiness. Flavor is similar, with some light hoppiness. Medium bodied, and with medium carbonation. A respectable middle-of-the-road scotch ale.
