Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium thin and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt, hops and caramel. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, caramel, and hops. Light smoke in the background as well. The finish is rich and sweet with a lingering caramel malt aftertaste. Above average all around. Pours with a hazed burn brown color underneath a quick to fade, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, light peat, honey, prunes and very light hops. Taste is quite smokey and peaty with caramel, dark fruits and an odd yeastiness. Thin mouthfeel, watery with light carbonation. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 28, 2005 This beer is HOPPY! Like, as in, IPA hoppy! Beware. Pretty sweet malts in there, but the alcohol burn is substantial and, given the sweetness, you’d think it was 8% abv, not 6.7%. Anyhoo, this beer is indeed lightly smoked and has some woodiness to it. If you’re into that sort of thing (I’m not particularly), then go for it. Bitterness lingers on the tongue. Clear, amber-ruby content with a filmy-like head. Aroma is a mix of wood, oak and malts. Rich malty taste profile with a fragile peaty touch. Fine drinkability. Thanks to Stefan and Elisabeth for carrying a 355ml bottle all the way from Seattle to Tromsø [13.01.2009]. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 20, 2004 A very sweet malty/caramel aroma. Slightly hazy orange with a small white fast falling head. Taste starts malty sweet, with some good caramel roasty tones, good balance and a sweet finish. A very smooth tasty brew. Aubrey (2774), Denver, Colorado, USA

Not quite as heavy as I expected from something named ’Kilt Lifter,’ but it was still very satisfying to my ’carnivore’ thirst. DuffMan (2756), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Orange-brown, slightly hazy, moderate cream coloured head. Aromas of citrus hops, wet leaves, and an earthy, peaty undertone. Surprisingly hoppy palate, almost tangy, with the healthy helping of malt as promised. Pleasantly earthy and sweet. Easy on the peat, which is a good thing. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 25, 2003 This one is a toss up for me. I used to prefer McEwan's, but this one is really winning my favor. Full bodied with out being overpowering, balanced and hoppy, with a smooth creamy aftertaste, slightly smokey and complex in the finish, but his just leaves you wanting another pour.
