Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Notes from the night say this exactly: Dark copper. Light chocolate aroma. Chocolate, smoke, and leather in the flavor. Good Shit!

This one is a toss up for me. I used to prefer McEwan's, but this one is really winning my favor. Full bodied with out being overpowering, balanced and hoppy, with a smooth creamy aftertaste, slightly smokey and complex in the finish, but his just leaves you wanting another pour.

My impression is the exact opposite of the Commercial Description. I thought it was very light bodied for a Scottish. It was nicely tart, and pleasently fruity. Finished a nicely smoky.

#200 rating for the beer! 12 oz bottle from enniskillen; Nose of prunes, cherries, and brown sugar sweetness; clear brown with a medium beige head; flavor is lightly fruity, peppery, with light hop bitterness; finish has a smoky note and a little alcohol warmth.

I think I have sampled at least 4 or 5 beers that call themselves “Kilt Lifters”, well in my humble opinion, Pike’s is the best. Also why is it so hard to find a “Good” Scotch Style Ale? A beauteous orange to amber color, the head prodigious in size, creamy in texture, a nice light tan in color and the residual lace a thick and sticky sheet to meld with the glass. Sweet malt is the nose, fresh and inviting, the start ambrosial, malt laden, and the top rich in its feel to the palate. Finish has a delectable acidity, the hops spicy and pleasant, dry aftertaste and a real treat.

Bottle from someoneorother. This actually has a very enchanting, unique, subtle aroma. Grapefruit sweetness, cinnamon, and cherry pits abound, with great complexity and depth. Doesn’t really hold up, though. There is a definite soda-pop kinda flavor straight out, and the finish is malty and chewy and a little bland.

[1097-20080216] Tap @ Pike brewpub (Seattle, WA). Toasted bread yeast aroma. Clear, dark amber red body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Fruity roasted malt flavour with a sweet finish and eventually noticeable alcohol. Medium body is thick. Nice malt.

Bottle pours reddish golden, small white milkish head, very light carbonation, with spotty lacing.   Aroma of malts, some toffee or caramel, and light smokiness.   Forwardly smokey, slighty peaty/malty, with some semi-sweet character.   Finishes with a slight bitterness, but moreso a malty semi-sweet caramel flavor.   This is a rather easy to drink, non-offensive Scotch Ale.   Slight smokey on the aftertaste.   Fairly tasty this is...
