Nose is sweet and like burnt earth (that's the peat, I guess) and lots of maltiness. Pretty tasty, I have had so much of this stuff (warning: headache beer) that I probably take it for granted. It really is what I might expect a Scottish to taste like from a PNW brewer. EithCubes (2165), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 19, 2007 Bottle. Extremely malty aroma, faint smoke and peat with light fruitiness. Copper-amber body with a rocky tan head and medium-strong carbonation. Crisp, slightly sharp taste, caramel malt dominant. Peat recession, but the fruitiness remains. Medium body with lingering caramel aftertaste and a faint touch of sourness. Solid and balanced, a good but not great one. Thanks, Jake! NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Very low intensity aroma smells vaugely of bready malts and little else that I can detect. The body is a soft orange/amber with a diminishing white head that is less than pinky thickness.

Sorta grain husk like fore tastes more like a lightly hopped pale ale. Some caramel malt almost makes a play, but this is mostly a cereal grain affair. Where is the peat, sweet malt and ale esters? This tastes like liquid rough bread. It’s not bad tasting it just doesn’t taste very Scotch Ale-ish. blutt59 (2147), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 27, 2003 Copper orange in color with a thin, white head and a thin, winey nose. Grainy malt flavor that tastes like it is supposed to be smokey but isn't. Sweet, alcoholic beer. I'm not a big Scottish Ale fan, but this just okay regardless. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 26, 2006 tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-amber with a thin head that has some lacing. The aroma is primarily of caramel malts. The flavor is similar with a touch of fruitiness and a smidgen of spice. The ale has a medium body and a lightly carbonated feel leading into a fairly mild finish. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2004 I usually reserve the term"kilt lifter" for the slighly bigger Scotch Ale or Wee Heavy, but this is a good representative of the lighter Scottish Ale style. Malty, slightly sweet with a good solid mouthfeel and body ending in a beautiful finish. A nice brew. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Sweet, malty aroma, full of toffee and brown sugar, sugary and fairly rich, some faint flowers noted. Clear light amber-brown color, head is slight and fading. Flavor is predominantly sweet and malty as well, but does feature a pleasant hop accent, particularly on the finish, which is lightly spicy, earthy and bittering. Malt profile is very lightly toasty and sweet, more light brown sugar and toffee present throughout. Thin and smooth on the palate with a medium body. Lightly nutty on the finish, some lingering tobacco and licorice qualities.
