Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

On tap at Pike Pub, Seattle. Amber with lasting beige head. Candy sugar, syrupy malt aroma. Some weird vanillary malt in mouth. Very light smoke. Actually I quite like the flavours. Malts are balanced by a tingly hop finish. Best tasting in the mouth so far of the Pike beers.

Bottle from someoneorother. This actually has a very enchanting, unique, subtle aroma. Grapefruit sweetness, cinnamon, and cherry pits abound, with great complexity and depth. Doesn’t really hold up, though. There is a definite soda-pop kinda flavor straight out, and the finish is malty and chewy and a little bland.

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear copper color. Head was foamy, white, and left some decent lace behind. Smelled of light brown sugar. Pretty one dimensional. Dry on the tongue with distinct smoky malt and tobacco flavors accented by mild hop bitterness.

Meaty smokey flavor with bitter grapefruit hop finish. Similar hop profile to the pale with some added malt characteristics in here.
