Aroma is right on with lots of caramel maltiness, very light peat. The flavor nails th style for me with lots of sweet caramel goodness, just a touch of peat and a little hopiness to give it just a bit of balance. Very nice scoth ale. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Sweet, malty aroma, full of toffee and brown sugar, sugary and fairly rich, some faint flowers noted. Clear light amber-brown color, head is slight and fading. Flavor is predominantly sweet and malty as well, but does feature a pleasant hop accent, particularly on the finish, which is lightly spicy, earthy and bittering. Malt profile is very lightly toasty and sweet, more light brown sugar and toffee present throughout. Thin and smooth on the palate with a medium body. Lightly nutty on the finish, some lingering tobacco and licorice qualities. mjg74 (1998), La Mesa, California, USA

Some fruity caramel like aromas as well. Somewhat sweet with a little bit of malt. A hint of roastiness in the finish. Some creamy scotch qualities as well. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 4, 2002 Hmmmmmm...what to say about this one...it’s tasty. This scottish pours a relatively light honey-brown iced tea color with minimal head and lace. Smells sweet and a bit fruity (must be the ’esters’ - what the hell?) but quite nice. Very mellow and offers nothing shocking. Nice maltiness with a very roasted-nut kind of taste on the palate - I guess the ’peaty smokiness’ may be fitting, although I haven’t had much experience eating ’peat.’ This is one of Pike’s better brews. argo0 (6951), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some peat, molasses. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, smokey peat, earthy, light peach. Medium body with light stickiness. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2004 a hazed amber color with thin head formation..overripe fruits, sourness, and a slightly musty aroma...slightly soured fruit based malty flavor which disappears very quickly and leaves minimal aftertaste. Almost peachy flavors and a somewhat chewy mouthfeel, not anything like any other scottish ale ive had..but remains interestingly pleasant. jerc (3945), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

(6+) Similar flavour, moderately sweet caramel malt base, just enough bitterness to keep it somewhat balanced. Average plus palate is lightly carbonated. Not bad. Malty, slightly sweet with a good solid mouthfeel and body ending in a beautiful finish. A nice brew.
