Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

This is a thick, concentrated, heavy, lucious tasty concoction with a beaut of a head, dreamy and brainy. Nose is sweet and like burnt earth (that's the peat, I guess) and lots of maltiness. Pretty tasty, I have had so much of this stuff (warning: headache beer) that I probably take it for granted. It really is what I might expect a Scottish to taste like from a PNW brewer.

This was a good beer. Pike has some others that are also just as nice. The flavor was very nice and the hint of peat added to the hops flavor. I like what Pike is brewing.

Server on tap slightly cool. Beautiful caramel color. Leaves a slight lace if you drink it quick. Hoppiness is more apparent as the beer warms. Definite peaty tones throughout.

Pours a ruby/chestnut with no real head to speak of. Only a light aroma of sweet malt and dark fruit. Medium body with plenty of sweetness as it should be. Not bad.

Pretty good. Nice balance. I get a little roastiness instead of sweet which is good in my book. I like the ABV, not to high.

Sour, rye, and hops dominate the aroma on this reddish brown pour. It has a nice roasted, peat malt flavor that is complimented by a certain amount of sourness.

It’s a style thing and the scotch should stick to well scotch. Given that take my rating with a healthy dose of salt. Looks like it should , maybe a little less red than I expect. Aroma is malty and taste is a little smokey. All in all a good scotch ale

Light in color, not in alcohol. Tasty, to be sure, good aroma and all, but I want more peaty smokiness, damnit! And more Dilithium crystals, Kep-ten!
