Out of the traditional PNW bottled staples, Pike's Kilt Lifter and Bridgeport's Pintail Ale are among the more frequently chosen brews to have, Modelled after traditional scotish heavy ales, Pike's version has an interesting blend of smokey peat on the palette along with some real thirst quenching kicks from its arrangement of hops.
Pours very clean with a moderate size head, giving way to a decent collar, a tight surface foam and decent glass lacing. Although not pegged as a bitter, this one certainly plays double duties for my own tastes and because it has a fairly bitter punch to it, it’s a great addition with a meal. But be forewarned, if you're not careful, this 'heavy' will quickly become a warming ale as its 6.6%abv can sneak up on you when you least expect it,
When you see Pike Place in the store, this Pike Kilt Lifter is the one I'd recommend from this classic Seattle brewery. GoldenCrown (18), Ontario, Canada

A pleasant non-distracting flavour, with no aftertaste. I enjoyed this beer. It allowed me to have a great drink while I did other things. Not overwhelming in a very good way.
Recommended for situations where there is alot going on of interest, yet still in need of good drink. This would be a good choice. KAggie97 (2481), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA

Grab one, if you can. Very well balanced despite the relatively high alcohol content. Strong flavor isn’t too overbearing, so it goes down easily. GREAT value, can usually get a 6-pack for less than $7.00. mikebeertaster (96), vancouver, Washington, USA

Personally, I am a big fan of peated malt so I think this brew could have used a little more of it. But that’s just personal. This is a great little beer, with great balance. The color sort of let me down, only because I was expecting something a little more ’red’ and this was a copper colored ale. But, you can’t win em’ all, right? Overall a great beer, and one that isn’t too strong or robust for beginners at the scotch ale style. Gregory (357), Pullman, Washington, USA
