Sep 29, 2006 Bottle. Pours a fairly dark brown color with a 1/4 in head. I found the aroma to not be as malty as I had expected...but malt was dominant characteristic. Taste is much the same, though I did detect a small amount of hoppiness and something else. I guess it was the peat. Decent and very drinkable, but nothing I would necessarily search out again.

Oct 11, 2007 on tap-pours a light tan head and amber color. Aroma is mild medium malt. Taste is smoky/peat, medium malt-caramel, some hops bitterness. Medium body. OK/mild carbonation. Right on for the style as a cross over beer.

May 12, 2009 Poured from12oz bottle. Medium amber liquid with a short lasting vigorous white head. The aroma was quite different, smoky and biscuity. The flavor was smoky, earthy, tart, a wee bit bitter, which was the major note that lasted. Only 6.5% but seemed stronger for some reason. Mouth feel was light and crisp. A bit of malty sweetness and lingering dried plum in the aftertaste. it grows on you, quite drinkable. A right comfortable scotch ale.

Aug 20, 2007 Draft at brewpub. This was a strange beer experience, because this transformed as it warmed, and not for the better. So my notes are based on my initial reaction. Pours deep reddish brown with an off white head. Sweet berry and malty aroma. Medium bodied with softer carbonation than the other Pike beers on tap, and slightly thin texture. Dark caramel-like maltiness, that is sweet and countered by some tobacco and subtle smoked peat. Short finish.

Mar 26, 2009 Bottle drank with angrypirate06. Pours with a hazed burn brown color underneath a quick to fade, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, light peat, honey, prunes and very light hops. Taste is quite smokey and peaty with caramel, dark fruits and an odd yeastiness. Thin mouthfeel, watery with light carbonation.

Feb 19, 2009 Dark copper in color with a medium sized off-white head. Aromais of malt, peat, and a light smokiness. Taste is of a little smoke and toffee, but is kind of weak.

Sep 5, 2007 A heavy tasting beer, with strong malt overtones, which are held in check by a caramel sweetness. Nice hoppy finish.

Mar 25, 2009 22 oz shared with Bman1113vr. Nice red-brown color with a quickly receding head. Raisins on the nose, with some additional yeast. Smoky flavor up front with a nice bit of malty sweetness.
