Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

Bottle. Amber colour with a tan head. Sweet caramel malty, light fruity, belgium yeast aroma and taste. Medium body with a dry fruity finish. I like the fruityness that I think comes from the yeast, that might be a Belgium yeasy?

Draught @ the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with hints of dark fruit and caramel. Sweet malty fruity flavor with hints of dark fruit and hops. Has a sweetish malty fruity finish.

12 oz bottle from Liquid Solutions. Very low intensity aroma smells vaugely of bready malts and little else that I can detect. The body is a soft orange/amber with a diminishing white head that is less than pinky thickness. <P> Sorta grain husk like fore tastes more like a lightly hopped pale ale. Some caramel malt almost makes a play, but this is mostly a cereal grain affair. Where is the peat, sweet malt and ale esters? This tastes like liquid rough bread. It’s not bad tasting it just doesn’t taste very Scotch Ale-ish.

I felt that this one did not reach the standards I had hopped for as I want an Scotch Ale to resemble the real thing.

On tap @ Pike: Clear Amber, small off-white head. Some caramel, slight peat & smoke, light fruity undertones, not bad.

On Tap Sweet flavor with light hops. A bit of almond/cashew flavor and floral aftertaste. This tastes like a mild scotch ale - which hides that fact that it packs quite a high ABV.

Clear sparkling amber, thin fizzy off white head. Nose held notes of soft smoked caramel malt, toffee, and cherry, with touches of leather. Flavor was lightly smoked malt and caramel up front with a light hop bitterness late. Overall, decent balance ensues. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, semi- bittersweet finish . It’s aiiight...
