Commercial Description:
Unlike the lighter "Scottish" ales, this is an authentic heavy Scotch ale. It is lightly hopped with a strong malt character, and a hint of peaty smokiness. Warm fermentation produces fruity esters and balances the sweet malt character.

tap. this beer is a rather flat looking amber, head was small and did not last. this beer does not have a significant release of gasses. it smells nice, malty, sweet, some hop bitterness, with a good nose of brandy. taste is similar and smooth, slightly tart and sweet, smokey malts and some dried fruit. mouthfeel is a bit flat, but at least it goes down smoothly. finish is nice and a bit bitter-sweet. vaguely reminds me of a few strong ipa’s i’ve had. a solid beer.

Ahh Kilt Lifter... this is one of the beers that helped me search out better beers. With out Kilt Lifter I’d still be a Macro drinker (perish the thought). I don’t think I’d ever just buy a single bottle but when one needs a reasonably priced six pack this is where I go looking, especially when I know I’ll be having guest. It’s not amazing but it works well as a happy medium.

An extremely malty sweet beverage. Golden orange-brown in color with a tan bubbly head. Aroma of subtle smokiness. Flavor of toast, molasses, caramel, and all things sweet. A bit of a dry finish, but overall a very sweet malty beer.

Pours a nice mahogany with a thin tan head. Aroma of biscuit malt, caramel, raisin and dark fruit, with a tinge of spicy hop. Flavour was a little light in the finish but quite smooth. Again raisin and dark fruit compliment a nice smokey sour malt body. Very drinkable for a ’heavy scottish’

tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-amber with a thin head that has some lacing. The aroma is primarily of caramel malts. The flavor is similar with a touch of fruitiness and a smidgen of spice. The ale has a medium body and a lightly carbonated feel leading into a fairly mild finish.

The color is rich mahogany. It has very light foam. The citrus aroma is surprising. The flavor is refreshing and delicious.

Bottle. Brown with bubbly white head. Strong malty aroma. Fruity with strong malt and some peatiness in the finish. I liked this, but probably wouldn’t drink more than one at a time.

Bottle. Thanks to friends in Idaho. Poured a dark golden colored. Has an apple cider armoa to it. Has the tatse of apples mixed with a smoke taste. Good beer.
