Pours a dark amber-brown body with a handsome tan head. Described as a modern version of an old world beers, Old 89 heads out much like an English stout, while coming at you with rich coffee tonus and closing with a particularly malleable, lightsome finish. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 30, 2004 Tap at brewpub. Good nose, choc/coffee/mocha. Little egg or salty too. Classic brown/ black color. Good head that faded. Sweet and bitter flavors, chocolate/ soap/ tinny. Thin bodied, sweet dry finish. Slightly off from a classic porter. Just alright. kbjames (242), Utah, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2004 hat this on tap and it was pretty good, I compare it as a tasty version of guniess. It was very creamy with decent lacing, and the taste was very full, very much a decent porter. I will go with this one again if I go back. cstuartj (319), Washington, USA

My buddy thought it was better than a good Guiness I didn’t agree but still thought it was a damn good nitro brew. I did pick up a bit of ’wateriness’ that was a bit dristracting and the creaminess wasn’t up to par with what I look for in a Guiness style beer. But all in all this is brew can stand w/ the best of what I normally find of tap in Washington. BückDich (4848), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 6, 2004 Dark brown/ruby, tan light head/lacing. The aroma is chocolaty with some mocha & coffee. Watery, metallic. The flavor is salty with some astringent malts. Very light and too dry. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 2, 2004 Bottle(sample bottling) pours black with brown highlights, nice cream colored frothy head, with clingy lacing. Roasted malts and a major amount of butter on the nose. Forwardly butter like with minor roasted malt flavor. By the middle and through to the finish the flavor falls off the boat and is completely gone after I swallow. Maybe a light flavor of coffee or dark chocolate on the exit, but VERY light. Body and mouthfeel are decent, but this is one that I will soon forget.
