Nose is full of strong sweet malts, caramel, toffee, and a hint of citrusy hops. Flavors of caramel, sweet malt, bitter piney hops, grapefruit, and citrus. Nice mouthfeel, thick, but not to heavy. Pretty nice. BDR (2154), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Hazy orange beer with faint white head and plenty of sediment floating about. Sweet rich caramel malt nose and some very faint citrus. Definite citrus hop in the body what does a good job of balancing the malty sweetness. Bitter finish. Nice to have another barley wine with something to differentiate it from the pack. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA

Lots of orange like citrus as well as very sweet malt on the nose, accomanied by a hint of heat. Very full creamy mouthfeel with a good amount of citrus. The alcohol is definately there, but the citrus hoppiness smooths it out into a very nice finish. Very nice beer, but I think I should have waited longer for it to mellow a touch more. kmweaver (2441), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a hazy, honey-orange color; off-white, tiny head. Dense, chewy hop and candy sugar aroma. Medium-to-full, viscous mouthfeel: dense sugary malts and a warming alcohol presence; good citrus hop character balancing things out; just not complex or intricate enough to justify the alcohol. Lengthy, candy sugar and warming alcohol finish. argo0 (6891), Washington DC, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 8, 2007 Splendid aroma of alcolhol, fruit, floral hop, and malt. The overall effect is of fermenting fruit. Beautiful orange tinged amber color. White head that didn’t last. Medium body, very light carbonation. A bit chewy. The alcohol is definitely present, some toffee, stone fruit (something like brandied fruit with the alcohol) sweetness. The main and saving feature is that each sip provides a burst of fruit. The finish is fairly dry, and there does seem to be some of that advertised smokey undertone. There is even enough bitter to overcome the residual sweetness. GG (1623), NorCal, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 15, 2007 NorCal tasting June ’07 - A pretty average, run-of-the-mill barleywine here. Aroma is wet paper, lightly medicinal, malty with an odd fresh linen smell. Amber in color, white head, decent lacing. Mouthfeel is on the thin side. Flavor is mostly malty, with a bit of fruits dancing around. Light vanilla notes too. Not a horrible barleywine, and it didn’t give me that overloaded feeling after drinking some of it. It could be a lot more complex, but it’s nothing awful.
