| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Pours a dark copper with a small off-white head. Aroma is almost like a Hair of the Dog beer with it’s cake-like malt aromas. Brown sugar, maple syrup, butterscotch, balanced by a bitter pine. Taste is a mix of the same sweet malt taste, but even more grapefruit hops, almost kinda soapy in a way. Finishes lightly hot with the flavor of burnt hops. Bitterness lays on the throat forever. Full mouthfeel, albeit a little slick. Nice malt flavors and aromas, but the hops seem too separate, and I don’t like what they do in this beer. Worth trying. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2007 Coppery clear rust body. Thin soapy off-white head. Sweet sticky hops over wheat crackers. Light perfume. Smells a like it is on the bitter end of the scale. Nice rich bitterness in a sweet background for moving the needle closer to the middle of balance. But the bitterness is nice and rich, along with some whisky and grass character. It has a nice natural complexity. Good overall. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

off orange to copper color w/ a full thick white head w/ some thick lacing. Smell is quite nice some hot hop flower a bit of alcohol and some nice carmels, a hint of strawberry and grass. Palate is well coated and full a little bit creamy. Flavor starts out nice but finishes a bit hot (alcohol) and overly piney. The starting flavor is some light fruits some grapefruit and strawberry w/ a good amount of carmel. A little age might make this very nice. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | May 25, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 200812-oz. Pours a still-looking dark coppery amber with a somewhat weak-looking and thin off-white head. Lots of clingy lace. Disappointingly restrained nose--have to really dig in to pick up faint whiffs of red tree fruit and caramel. Moderate attack; slightly oily body, light carb, and assertive flavors. Nothing earth-shattering for a BW. Mid-palate is a nice mix of tangy, husky malty caramel and some nuttiness that seems to come out of the meld with the piney hop. Big tangy caramel and bitter pine finish. Liking it, but not jumping up and down.
Re-rated August 08 from a 1998 bottle. 10 years on it from the time of Fal’s employ is definitely the way to drink this beer, and the numbers apply only to this part of the notes.
Crystal clear dark amber. Headless, laceless. Big soy, biscuit, and dark wood nose. Big oily flat body. Super woody mid-palate. Bitter resin, tobacco, and leather too. Long woody finish. Wood, tobacco, and leather aren’t the newest additions to a well-aged barleywine’s flavor profile or anything, but this is beautifully crafted, delicious, and deserves a ton of credit. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2007 Pours a clear golden bronze with a wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly citrusy grapefruity hops with a touch of earthy toasty pale malt. Body starts with decent viscosity and mild caramel sweetness with lots of earthy grapefruity bittering hops. Could use a little more balance, but a decent barleywine. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Hazy orange color with no head and light carbonation. Malty citrus aroma. Malty hoppy taste with some alcohol and sweetness in the middle. Taste like chicken killer but not as sweet. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 8, 2007 12 oz bottle from Yonkers65. Pours a nice, deep, dark copper color. Aroma is light, but there is some nice hop aromas present. Palate is a little thin and lightly carbonated, making this a BW that you can drink easily. Dangerously easy to drink. Flavor is nice, although I would like to see more of the hop flavors stand out. Still damn good though. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 5, 2007 More amber than red. White head and lacing. Sweet and cloying armao that is fruity and bitter. Hot and malty with some earthy qualities. Bitterness storms the taste buds. Acidic citrus mops up. A little bit of heat and roast land on the fallout. Finishes bitter and hot.
