Commercial Description:
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

Bottle... Poured amber with a thin beige head. Aroma was buttery with some leafy hops and smooth malt. Nice palate, kind of foamy with fllavors of toffee butter, chocolate, malt and mild hops for a little bitterness. Could hardly taste any alcohol and was very easy to drink.

Very average barley wine...small eggshell head sits atop a fiery orange brew. Very sugary, very nutty, with dark fruits finding their way to the palate.

12oz bottle from Liquid Solutions, 2006 bottling. Deep copper color, comes out of the bottle fairly thin, as if it had several years of age on it already. Despite what’s advertised, there’s a strongly nutty aroma on this one that seems to suggest anything but a PNW hop bomb of a barleywine. Thin body, slightly sugary, with very little character to the brew. Sure, there’s some hops still there (more present in the bite, as there’s nothing you could really describe as floral or citric) and some yeast in there to hold things together too. But there’s not a whole lot to this one, unfortunately. I’m sitting on a second bottle, so will rerate if appropriate.

Bottle shared by footbalm. Pours a cloudy amber with a tiny head. The aroma was sweet apple cider and candies. The taste was very smooth, full of caramel, some dark fruit, a touch of brown sugar, toasted malts, not much of a Scotch presence, but good nevertheless.
