Commercial Description:
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

12 oz bottle from Yonkers65. Pours a nice, deep, dark copper color. Aroma is light, but there is some nice hop aromas present. Palate is a little thin and lightly carbonated, making this a BW that you can drink easily. Dangerously easy to drink. Flavor is nice, although I would like to see more of the hop flavors stand out. Still damn good though.

Pours a beige head with legs and a copper-amber color body. Smells of mellow citrus and spice hops, rich caramelized malt. Flavor is the same but with some peat. Finish is brown sugar and a little bitter.

Rated 11/29/2008 (botte labeled 2007): Pours a reddish brown color body, somewhat cloudy body, with a little tan head, somewhat creamy looking. Malty syrupy sweet aroma. Bitter in the nose along with the sickly sweet. Malty soy saucy taste. Some nuttiness. A little smoother in the taste. Some smokiness too. Carbonated, somewhat creamy taste. Some grapefruit.

Bright amber with small white head. Aroma of flowers, hops, malt. Nice bitter flavor throughout, especially apparent in the finish. Like an IPA but darker and more mellow. A winner.

Pours a dark copper with a small off-white head. Aroma is almost like a Hair of the Dog beer with it’s cake-like malt aromas. Brown sugar, maple syrup, butterscotch, balanced by a bitter pine. Taste is a mix of the same sweet malt taste, but even more grapefruit hops, almost kinda soapy in a way. Finishes lightly hot with the flavor of burnt hops. Bitterness lays on the throat forever. Full mouthfeel, albeit a little slick. Nice malt flavors and aromas, but the hops seem too separate, and I don’t like what they do in this beer. Worth trying.

12 oz. 2006 vintage bottle courtesy of msubulldog2. Nice light orange color with a sweet candy smell, hoppy. Some fruity candy taste with a slight hoppy finish. Citrusy flavors are also present. This is a good American barleywine that is very mellow and easy to drink, no alcohol flavors, nice. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-29-2008 06:52:47

Good barley wine. Little alcohol/boozy flavor but little cherry flavor too. Pretty sweet though but I guess that’s OK. Very drinkable & smooth.

’98 bottle thanks to Trevor211!
Pours muddy tan-red, pretty lifeless, murky, and depressing, no real head to speak of. Nose is malt driven, lots of raisin and caramel, some dry leaf notes as well. Flavor is sweet, some raisin, burnt toast, slight alcohol. Thin, 11 year old palate, slightly sticky, but not drawn out given the age. Pretty enjoyable stuff, and I’ll always go for these aged malt-heavy barley wines. That said, the ‘98 JW Lees has this pretty handily in the malt complexity.
