Commercial Description:
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

Good barley wine. Little alcohol/boozy flavor but little cherry flavor too. Pretty sweet though but I guess that’s OK. Very drinkable & smooth.

Bottle at Papsø. Hazy orange coloured with a small white head. Fruity aroma of caramel, dried fruits, cardemomme and hops. Sweet flavour of caramel, bread, dried fruits, hops and grass. Dry hoppy finish.

12 oz 2006 bottling enjoyed on Nov-8-2007. Clear copper color with a fleeting head. Malty sweet pit fruit aroma with some hot alcohol. Medium/heavy body. Pit fruit and caramel sweetness with some dry malt flavor. has a nicely bitter hop alcohol tang to finish. Easy drinking now and not so rough around the edges as it was in early 2007.

2007 bomber shared by Ethan. Thanks bro. Been trying to drink this for a while. Nose was fruity, rich, and slightly hoppy. Flavor was rich caramel, still pretty hoppy, a bit of peat. Pretty nice, but I expected less bitterness. Easy to drink with a light mouthfeel and warming finish.

2007, on tap. I didn’t pick much up from the aroma: a bit malty with mild metallic notes. Impressive appearance: deep amber with a thick, creamy white head. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty, and notably crisp and bitter for a barley wine. Not remotely cloying or syrupy. Nice.

2007 Bomber a bonus from OldMr.Crow. Thanks. Pours orange with a 1 finger tan head. Nose is sweet with nice dried fruit. Taste is full bodied and sweet with nice tones of caramel and toffee. Nice brew overall, above average BW.

2006 bottle, consumed April 2009. Pours an ultra-cloudy, rusty orange- down color. A small head of frothy, bubbly, off white foam leaves tattered ribbon lacing and sugary spotting on the glass. The nose shows a sweet and buttery toffee and caramel malt profile, with hints of hazelnut, pecan, and golden raisin. Bitter earth and candied orange peel hops balance things out a bit. Flavors are sweet with toffee, apple, raisin, yet sufficiently countered by staunch floral, earthy, citrus hops. Big and lightly syrupy on the tongue, with moderate carbonation, there’s plenty of substance, but it’s fairly alcoholic on the finish. Pretty solid barleywine.

22oz bottle from riversideAK. Pours ruby with a creamy tan head. Good head retention for almost the entire beer. Aroma is of bitter hops, alcohol, caramel, malt, and grass. Taste starts off initially with a strong, bitter hop character. The hops become evened out by a caramel malt backbone. The whole beer has a strong earthy character to it. Lingering, gritty chocolate taste. Strong alcohol presence. Very thick mouthfeel. Takes a few sips to warm up to the harsh alcohol, but once you do it’s worth the wait. Finish is all caramel.
