Commercial Description:
Named to commemorate the La Salle Hotel, once a Seattle bawdy house and the original home of the Pike Brewing Company. Old Bawdy is a vintage-dated, high-gravity beer brewed with peated Scotch malt. It has a deep golden bronze color, a fruity rich taste, and an aggressive and dominating hop character with smoky undertones that are reminiscent of Scotch whiskey.

Bottle - 2006 Vintage: Orange amber color, light head and lacing. The nose is fresh yet vegetal with lots of hops and a strong alcohol and peaty notes. The flavor is strong, fairly unrounded and boring with a spicy scotchy note, excess bitterness and alcohol. The finish is strong and scratchy, lacking a smooth character. They should have held onto this in the brewery for another year until it was ready. Young, brash and agressive.

More amber than red. White head and lacing. Sweet and cloying armao that is fruity and bitter. Hot and malty with some earthy qualities. Bitterness storms the taste buds. Acidic citrus mops up. A little bit of heat and roast land on the fallout. Finishes bitter and hot.

Hazy orangey red beer with almost no head but some sediment. Nose was very sweet caramel and a touch of alcohol. Some heat upfront and rather sweet with lots of caramel and some sweet fruit. Some citrus hops sneak in at the finish.

2006 bottle sampled 4/21/2009. Slightly hazy copper color with no head, just a thin ring of bubble aroung the edge of the glass. Aroma of caramel, cherry, brown sugar, honey, wood, and a slight twinge of alcohol. Flavor of caramel, cedar, honey. I didn’t detect much of the peat smoked malt at all. The aroma had me thinking this one was going to be cloying, but it is balanced well by the resinous hops in the finish. Very little carbonation, thick, syrupy body.

2007 version.: Dark maple colored with a thin film, off-white head. Sweet, sugary, malty nose. Hoppy, bitter flavor with a sweet, heavy malt backbone. Natural mineral water flavored finish with hops.
