Mocha, smoke, chocolate and roast in the nose. Full roasty flavor, dark cocoa, espresso, coffee, chocolate and a slightly charred finish - which isn’t ashy. Light caramel sweetness. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Updated: Oct 10, 2008(Dry-hopped version from Brouwer’s Hopfest ’08) Interesting attempt. The addition of hops mellows the malt and smoke but doesn’t amount to much pine/floral in the taste, more so on the nose and finish. A bitter stout. MrChopin (632), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2008 Black with short lived tan head. Nose has a lot of roast with some sugary fruit, alcohol, slight hop and vanilla. Flavor is quite roasty and rather bitter, but it’s balanced by chocolate and fresh hop in the long finish. Nice beer, well rounded. and quite effective.
