Oct 21, 2008 bottle thanks to swalden_28. pours black with a thin chocolate brown head. aroma of baking chocolate, dark roasts, and some dark fruits. flavor of burnt roasts and baking chocolate and some bitter. medium carbonation and body with a touch of dryness. a nice solid stout by pike!

Roasted aroma of coffee with notes of smoke and chocolate.
Roasted flavour of coffee, liquorice, hops and grape fruits.
Roasted and hoppy finish.

Oct 19, 2008 Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX. Pours a deep black with tan head...Aroma of dark roast, faint dark fruit, baking chocolate. Flavor of dark roast, baking chocolate, nice bitter to complement. Mouth feel is heavy body, medium carbonation. Overall a good, strong stout.

Oct 9, 2008 Bottle and on tap at Pike: Pours deep black with a light brown head. Mocha, smoke, chocolate and roast in the nose. Full roasty flavor, dark cocoa, espresso, coffee, chocolate and a slightly charred finish - which isn’t ashy. Light caramel sweetness. Full, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. My favorite Pike beer.

Oct 4, 2008 black pour with a deep caramel head. deep notes of coffee with roasted malts and a big hint of chocolate. wow that’s quite smooth and the flavors are mostly coffee with a finish of chocolate. very impressive stuff right here. glad to have a stout like this available in TX now.

Sep 29, 2008 Updated: Oct 10, 2008(Dry-hopped version from Brouwer’s Hopfest ’08) Interesting attempt. The addition of hops mellows the malt and smoke but doesn’t amount to much pine/floral in the taste, more so on the nose and finish. A bitter stout.

Sep 21, 2008 Black with short lived tan head. Nose has a lot of roast with some sugary fruit, alcohol, slight hop and vanilla. Flavor is quite roasty and rather bitter, but it’s balanced by chocolate and fresh hop in the long finish. Nice beer, well rounded. and quite effective.
